TECHNOLOGY REVOLUTION YIELDS NEW ULTRA LOW INDUCTANCE CAPACITORS FROM AVX
The new LGA (land grid array) capacitor from AVX uses a patented termination and vertical electrode design and process to produce superior low inductance decoupling capacitors. They are ideal for today’s high performance MPU, GSP, DSP, FPGA and ASIC in package requirements, as well as high performance system designs which require low inductance devices.
An important differentiating factor for the LGA device family is that AVX has been able to release the industries first ultra low inductance 0204 size part. The specific pad layout of the 0204 part, makes this a suitable replacement for an existing 0201 part, thereby significantly increasing the capacitance in a given board space. In addition the termination area is larger which provides for improved ease of assembly.
Also the LGA provides a unique benefit to Designers who have previously been forced to move to smaller case sizes or multi-terminal (more complex to assemble) devices to achieve the required inductance level. Using the new termination process has resulted in a complete reversal of existing industry performance. AVX LGA devices in larger case sizes now offer lower inductance than smaller devices. This is a major development and can significantly reduce the number of devices required in a system, or the board design complexity necessary to maximize system performance.
